Discussion of the Master’s Thesis Submitted by the Student Alaa Amer Abdul Raheem

The Master’s Thesis of the Student Alaa Amer Abdul Raheem was discussed under the supervision of Assistant Professor Shahd Abdul Rahman Hasso in the discussion hall at the College of Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of Mosul on 6/13/2024

The study dealt with generating and testing an encryption key based on biometrics

The study aims to generate an encryption key that includes a set of binary numbers from two irises, and the randomness of the resulting key is examined through several measures. To maintain the confidentiality of the encryption key created between the sender and the recipient, the process of generating and testing the encryption key from the iris is done by downloading a set of high-resolution images from the Internet and using them in the program. Two images of the eye are selected that represent the iris of the sender and the recipient with high accuracy and converting (the iris) to a digital representation, and the two images are processed and then the features inside the iris of the two images are extracted using two methods HOG) Histogram of Oriented Gradients) and (SIFT) Scale Invariant Feature Transform for each of the two images. And the key is created from the extracted properties and the key is tested using randomness measures (Chi-square test, ENT test, block_metric, gab_metric). If the generated key meets the randomness criteria, then the generated key is random, and if it does not meet the criteria, then it is not random.
