A panel discussion entitled “Population Modeling” for the Mathematics Department

The Department of Mathematics at the College of Computer Science and Mathematics held a seminar on Tuesday, 19/4/2026, titled * Population Modeling *, presented by (Asst. Lect. Raghad Abdulaziz Mustafa, Asst. Lect. Shahla Muayyad Khalil, and Asst. Lect. Zeena Faleh Saleh).
Seminar Summary:
This seminar addresses the topic of Population Modeling as one of the most important applications of mathematical modeling used to understand and predict population changes.
It also reviews the Malthusian model, which assumes unrestricted growth and demonstrates its limitations when used for long-term prediction. In contrast, the Verhulst model (logistic growth) is presented, which takes into account the limited carrying capacity of a population, making it more accurate and realistic, especially for long-term forecasting. Its efficiency has been demonstrated using real population data from the United States.
