In Line with Sustainable Development Goals: Student Volunteer Groups Lead an Extensive Tree-Planting Campaign at the College of Computer Science and Mathematics, University of Mosul

In alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and to foster a culture of youth volunteerism, the College of Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of Mosul organized an extensive tree-planting campaign across its campus grounds and gardens on Wednesday, October 21, 2026. The event, held in observance of National Tree-Planting Day, saw active participation and exemplary leadership from student volunteer groups, working in collaboration with faculty members and administrative staff.

Supporting SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land), the student teams—working alongside the College’s Tree-Planting Committee and engineers from the Agricultural Division—planted dozens of saplings and trees. This initiative serves to enhance biodiversity and mitigate adverse climate impacts. By translating theoretical concepts of sustainable development into tangible, real-world practices, this effort contributes to enriching the learning environment (SDG 4: Quality Education) and transforming the campus into a more sustainable and aesthetically pleasing community (SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities). The college administration commended the leadership spirit and high level of environmental awareness demonstrated by the student volunteers. It emphasized that engaging youth in such initiatives strengthens voluntary partnerships (Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals) and fosters a culture of active citizenship and social responsibility among future leaders—ensuring that tree planting and environmental preservation become vital, sustainable practices both within and beyond the college.
