Master thesis defense on “The role of Territory in Activating the Performance of open outdoor spaces in economic housing in Mosul”
A Master thesis was discussed in Department of Architectural Engineering / College of Engineering at University of Mosul entitled “The role of Territory in Activating the Performance of open outdoor spaces in economic housing in Mosul”, submitted by (Aya Hisham Shukur), Supervised By Assist. Prof. Dr. Hasan Abdul Razzaq On Tuesday, August 30, 2023.
The research aims to find ” the role of the spatial hierarchy in organizing public spaces in the local residential complex” , as well as a set of secondary objectives that included evaluating the clarity of the levels of spatial hierarchy of public spaces in the local residential complex, and the effect of distortion in organizing the spatial hierarchy on the inhabitant’s satisfaction and behavior in reshaping The environment and the discovery of the gradation of the importance of different activities in the public spaces of the local residential complex and the role of spatial hierarchy levels in their distribution.
The study focused on public spaces in residential complexes locally and their importance and impact on the inhabitant and their impact on the inhabitant. The new urban systems do not give sufficient importance to public spaces in terms of locations and design for residential buildings and their importance to the individual. This negligence greatly affects the inhabitant’s ability to interact with his environment and meet his psychological and social needs, so our research problem emerges the lack of clear indicators to organize the spatial hierarchy in the formation of public spaces and the organization of its activities in residential complexes in a manner that achieves the satisfaction of the local inhabitant.
The study showed that despite the design attempts found in local projects, it reflected a set of design problems that presented the value of the social factor in separating spaces. This result generated a large number of remedial measures for the resident, especially at the first level, as it depended on a set of factors (such as the nature of the local resident and his desires, age, space size, and the nature of family composition) according to social needs.
