Research Team from the College of Science Registers a Bacterial Isolate in the Global NCBI Database

A research team from the Department of Biology at the College of Science has successfully registered a bacterial isolate in the database of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), as part of their academic research activities and undergraduate graduation research projects.

The research was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Huda Waleed Hadi, with the participation of students Luqman Hazim Hassan and Hassan Nadhim Mohsen as part of their graduation research project.

The registered bacterial isolate belongs to the species Citrobacter arsenatis. It was isolated from a locally produced basturma meat product and identified using molecular techniques based on the analysis and sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene. The study aimed to achieve accurate genetic characterization and molecular identification of the isolate.

The genetic sequence of the isolate has been officially deposited in the GenBank database of the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) under the accession number:

PZ380094

This achievement reflects the College’s commitment to supporting academic scientific research and documenting molecular data of bacterial isolates, making them accessible to researchers worldwide. Such efforts contribute to advancing scientific studies and specialized research in the fields of microbiology and molecular biology.

We extend our best wishes to our dear students for continued success and academic excellence.
