The Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Sciences (Animal Production specialization) at the University of Mosul is a four-year, full-time undergraduate program comprising 240 ECTS credits under the Bologna Process. The program provides students with a solid scientific foundation in basic sciences, agricultural sciences, and fundamental principles of animal production sciences, followed by advanced study in key animal production domains such as animal nutrition, genetics and breeding, animal reproduction, physiology, and the management of poultry, livestock (cattle, sheep, and goats), and aquaculture production.
The curriculum integrates theoretical knowledge, laboratory experimentation, field training, scientific research, and project-based learning to develop technical competence and professional skills. Graduates acquire analytical, practical, communication, and problem-solving skills necessary to manage and develop sustainable animal production projects, enhancing animal productivity and food safety. Furthermore, the program prepares graduates for professional practice, lifelong learning, and postgraduate studies while reinforcing ethical responsibility, teamwork, innovation, and commitment to supplying society with animal products and supporting sustainable agricultural development.
The Animal Production Program aims to:
- Prepare specialized, trained scientific cadres with academic competencies in the field of animal production, capable of meeting professional challenges and competing with peers in serving the community and meeting labor market needs.
- Provide a modern, stimulating educational environment equipped with state-of-the-art technologies and advanced facilities that enable students to compete, innovate, and excel, fostering a desire for continuous learning, self and skill development, performance enhancement, teamwork, and decision-making in animal production.
- Qualify personnel knowledgeable in agricultural legislation, legal and social issues, work ethics adherence, and quality management related to agricultural fields, particularly animal production.
- Efficiently manage and utilize resources and address operational problems in agricultural facilities and projects in the field of animal production, while conserving natural resources, biodiversity, and achieving sustainable development.
- Equip students with language and computer skills, developing their capabilities to apply scientific and practical methodologies in animal production research and contribute to solving relevant agricultural issues.
- Analyze interaction patterns among humans, plants, soil, and the general environment to enhance natural resource conservation and environmental protection.
- Evaluate soil and water characteristics and determine suitable agricultural utilization patterns in animal production under various environmental conditions, while preventing soil degradation and water pollution to maintain a clean and sustainable environment.
- Practice careers in processing poultry, animal meat, feed, dairy products, and dairy cattle management, utilizing economic and commercial concepts to satisfy market demand for high-quality animal products including meat, dairy, and fish.
- Produce graduates with required skills in horse management, breeding, rearing, and nutrition for employment in recreational and equestrian tourism activities.
- Manage feed and animal food production efficiently and safely for livestock and human health in an environmentally friendly manner.
- Develop sustainable aquaculture and food safety by providing students with technology and managerial skills for aquaculture and fishery products.
- Study domestic and wild animals used for recreation, enjoyment, and human sporting activities, including their nutrition, management, and genetic improvement, preparing graduates for employment opportunities in marketing and nutrition of pets and captive animals.
- Understand prevention programs for epidemic, endemic, and common diseases, as well as animal waste management based on sustainability and environmental conservation principles.
- Preserve genetic and environmental resources of national livestock, plan for genetic breed improvement, and apply modern scientific concepts for adaptation and breeding new suitable farm species.
- Apply various biotechnology methods in reproduction and artificial insemination in farm animals.
- Possess advertising and marketing skills, as well as labeling, displaying, and selling food animal products.
- Evaluate and analyze agricultural projects in animal production and agricultural natural resource investment, developing plans for their growth and progress.
Upon successful completion of all program requirements, graduates are awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Sciences / Animal Production from the University of Mosul.
The program is classified at Level 6 of the Iraqi National Qualifications Framework (INQF), or its equivalent, in accordance with the regulations and guidelines issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR).
Admission to the Bachelor of Science in Animal Production program is subject to the admission policies and regulations issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul. Applicants must satisfy the approved admission criteria for colleges of agriculture.
To obtain the Bachelor’s degree in Animal Production, students must successfully fulfill all graduation requirements, including:
- Successful completion of all academic units (240 ECTS credits), including all mandatory and elective courses specified in the curriculum.
- Achieving the minimum graduation requirements set by MOHESR and the University of Mosul.
- Passing all practical and laboratory courses, field training (summer farm/field training), and other applied components of the program.
- Adhering to all academic regulations governing assessment, progression, passing, and graduation approved by MOHESR and the University of Mosul.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and credit transfer are considered exclusively in cases of student transfer or course equivalence, in accordance with the regulations and guidelines issued by MOHESR and the University of Mosul.

The Animal Production program adopts the examination, assessment, and grading regulations approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul. Student performance is evaluated through a variety of continuous and final assessment methods, including:
- Continuous assessment (short quizzes, assignments, class and field activities).
- Midterm examinations.
- Final examinations (theoretical and practical).
- Laboratory reports, practical assessments, and farm/field applications.
- Agricultural projects and field assignments.
- Summer field training in farms, fields, and production stations.
- Oral presentations and seminars.
- Evaluation of the academic/field graduation project.
- Compliance with academic integrity guidelines and institutional policies regarding academic misconduct, cheating, and plagiarism.
To receive the Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Production, a student must successfully fulfill all graduation requirements according to the regulations of MOHESR and the University of Mosul, which include:
- Successful completion of all credit units (240 ECTS credits) and all required and elective courses specified in the curriculum.
- Meeting the minimum graduation requirements, including the required Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA), per applicable regulations.
- Passing the graduation project and all laboratory, practical, and summer field training components.
- Fulfilling all academic and administrative requirements for the award of the Bachelor’s degree.

Job Title: Bachelor of Science in Animal Production Program Coordinator
The Program Coordinator oversees the overall coordination, implementation, and continuous improvement of the Bachelor’s program in Animal Production. Responsibilities include supervising curriculum implementation, tracking graduate outcomes achievement, academic coordination between faculty members and students, supervising laboratory activities and field/practical training, and ensuring compliance with quality assurance policies at the University of Mosul, MOHESR regulations, and academic accreditation requirements. Additionally, the coordinator supports curriculum review and development to ensure the program remains responsive to modern advancements in animal production sciences, agricultural labor market needs, and emerging technologies.
