The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Forestry Sciences at the University of Mosul, College of Agriculture and Forestry, is a four-year undergraduate program delivered according to the Bologna Process and based on the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). The program comprises 240 ECTS credits and eight academic semesters.
The program aims to prepare highly qualified scientific and technical cadres in the management, protection, development, and sustainability of forest and natural resources. The curriculum balances theoretical knowledge with intensive practical and field applications. It begins with a strong foundation in basic and environmental sciences and progressively moves to specialized areas including forest tree silviculture and propagation, forest mensuration, forest management and protection from pests and fires, wood physiology and anatomy, forest-products technology and industry, Remote Sensing, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applied to forest-land surveying and planning.
The program focuses on graduating agricultural/forestry engineers capable of addressing contemporary environmental challenges such as climate change, desertification, and biodiversity degradation according to sustainable-development principles.
Program Mission
The Department of Forestry Sciences, through the Bachelor of Science in Forestry Sciences program, is committed to preparing graduates who are distinguished in knowledge and skills and capable of leading and managing forest and natural resources efficiently and sustainably. The program seeks to achieve this through an interactive educational and research environment characterized by innovation and aligned with global quality standards and the Bologna Process, with emphasis on applied field development. It also contributes effectively to community service and environmental protection and addresses environmental and climate challenges through sound scientific consultancy and sustained partnerships with relevant sectors locally and regionally.
The objectives of the Bachelor of Science in Forestry Sciences represent the strategic and professional goals that graduates are expected to achieve and demonstrate in the workplace and society within 3–5 years after graduation. They translate the mission of the College and Department and respond to sustainable-development needs in forestry, natural resources, and the environment.
- Professional Practice & Sustainable Management: Enable graduates to practice professionally in planning and managing forests, nurseries, and natural reserves, applying afforestation techniques and forest-ecosystem protection according to environmental sustainability standards.
- Modern Technologies & Problem Solving: Qualify graduates to apply contemporary scientific methods and technologies, such as GIS and Remote Sensing, to analyze and solve complex field problems including forest fires, pests, climate change, and soil degradation.
- Leadership, Ethics, & Social Responsibility: Prepare graduates to lead integrated teams and forestry projects with full adherence to professional ethics, environmental-protection laws, and social responsibility toward communities surrounding forests.
- Lifelong Learning & Research: Motivate graduates to pursue continuous professional development, lifelong learning, postgraduate studies, and scientific research in forestry sciences to keep pace with global developments.
- Consultancy & Community Service: Enhance graduates’ ability to provide scientific and practical consultations and solutions to governmental, private, and non-governmental organizations concerned with conserving forest wealth and developing vegetation cover.
Upon successful completion of the program requirements, graduates are awarded the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Agricultural Sciences / Forestry Sciences by the University of Mosul.
The program is classified at Level 6 of the Iraqi National Qualifications Framework (INQF), in accordance with the regulations and guidelines of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR).
Admission to the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Forestry Sciences program is governed by the admission regulations and policies of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul, with admission from the Scientific Track.
To be awarded the B.Sc. in Forestry Sciences, students must successfully satisfy all graduation requirements, including:
- Successful completion of all 240 ECTS credits across eight academic semesters under the Bologna Process.
- Successful completion of all compulsory and elective courses, laboratory work, field applications, and summer training.
- Compliance with all academic regulations governing assessment, progression, and graduation approved by MOHESR and the University of Mosul.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and transfer of academic credits are considered only in cases of student transfer or course equivalency, in accordance with the regulations and instructions of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) and the University of Mosul.

Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Forestry Sciences are expected to possess the scientific and practical capabilities required to perform the following professional duties:
- Supervise natural and artificial forests, prepare technical afforestation plans, and rehabilitate vegetation cover and environmentally degraded areas.
- Design and manage nurseries for producing forest-tree seedlings and drought-resistant trees and apply modern propagation and maintenance techniques.
- Prepare emergency plans for wildfire prevention, identify forest safety corridors, and participate in directing rescue operations and limiting fire spread.
- Monitor insect pests and fungal diseases affecting forest trees and apply integrated environmental and biological control strategies.
- Use field instruments to measure tree diameters and heights, calculate biomass and wood stock, and estimate annual forest growth rates.
- Use GIS and Remote Sensing to map forests, monitor vegetation-cover changes, and track desertification.
- Supervise sustainable timber harvesting and extraction that protects soil, and manage processing of non-wood forest products such as gums, essential oils, and medicinal plants.
- Contribute to environmental-impact reports and watershed management within forests to protect soil from erosion and regulate water flow.

The Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Forestry Sciences is a four-year, full-time undergraduate program delivered in accordance with the Bologna Process and comprising 240 ECTS credits. The program adopts a student-centered learning approach integrating interactive theoretical lectures, laboratory experiments, field and specialized practical applications, problem-based and project-based learning, digital platforms, collaborative learning, self-directed learning, presentations, scientific seminars, practical training, artificial-intelligence applications, and green education in Forestry Sciences. These activities are designed to strengthen scientific, technical, field, digital, communication, and professional competencies and readiness for forestry practice.
Program Coordinator
Program Coordinator of the Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Forestry Sciences
The Program Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination, implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of the Bachelor of Science in Forestry Sciences program. The role includes overseeing curriculum implementation, monitoring achievement of Program Learning Outcomes, coordinating academic activities among faculty members and students, supervising laboratory and field-training activities, supporting assessment and quality-assurance processes, and ensuring alignment with University of Mosul policies, MOHESR regulations, and program-accreditation requirements.
